Our First Visitor

The evening after we arrived into Bordeaux, our close friend Andrea joined us, just in time for a late Saturday dinner in the nearby square.  She took the TGV train down from Paris where she was visiting her sister.

And the next morning she joined us for our first foray to the outdoor market on the riverfront of the river Garonne, conveniently located a ten minute walk from our apartment.  (The river flows 374 miles (602 kms) from Northern Spain to the Atlantic ocean, and is one of the few rivers in the world exhibiting a tidal bore.  Bet you didn’t know.)

Bread, cheese and salmon kabobs later we had a great lunch, including artisan beer. Then time for relaxing when a bit of sun came out.

We also enjoyed an afternoon of bicycling around Bordeaux using the VCub bike share system. Cruiser type bikes come with a basket, adjustable seat, and a lock all for about $1.50 for 24-hours. And we discovered the botanical garden (Jardin Botanique) where Music at Le Calliou  is based featuring jazz, blues and everything in between.

Although we haven’t attended a concert yet, I’ve been back to the Sunday market and know it’ll be a regular outing. Numerous prepared foods and a great place to pick up a lazy lunch. I’m ecstatic it’s open year around, rain or shine so anyone who visits will have to join us!

Great Post guys! Lynn and I also enjoyed an afternoon of biking around Bordeaux using the wonderful Bikeshare service ( hopefully coming to Sacramento in the next few years) over bridges and down lanes. Getting lost shopping and ducking out of the rain for a delicious lunch in an everyday cafe. Even took a little water taxi while enjoying the newest steel cable bridge over the river.
Highly recommend a visit to Bordeaux , it’s a beautiful grande dame of France!
