Invitation to Join #WorldWineTravel Exploration of Castilla y Léon

Saturday, March 27th is just around the corner and on that date, I’m thrilled to co-host the latest #WorldWineTravel chat focusing on Castilla y Léon with Allison from ADVineTURES.

Come to Castile and Leon From the Comfort of Your Home

Our third destination this year, Castilla y Léon (as written in Spanish), is where winemaking history predates Roman settlement. It encompasses several prestigious D.O. (Denominaciones de Origin) including Ribera del Duero and Rueda, and also the Castilla Y Léon VT (Vino de la Tierra) which covers the entire region and is void of tight D.O. restrictions giving winemakers room to experiment. One can find quality red, white, rose and sparkling wines to suit any palate in this area.

The D.O. of Castilla y Léon are spread in north central to eastern Spain. Note the IGP here refers to Castilla y Léon VT. Map source: vineyards.com

One also finds a diversity of terroirs and weather. From dry plains to rocky higher altitude areas and a continental climate ranging from scorching summer to frigid winter days. Overall, rain is scarce forcing vines to search deep within the area’s varied soils.

At present, the #WorldWineTravel group of wine, food and travel aficionados are cheerfully sipping wines from throughout this historical region, pairing choices with an array of foods and exploring the culture, all while planning their own virtual visit to the largest autonomous region in Spain. The best news is you’re invited to join the virtual journey!
